inTEST Corporation Receives ISO 9001:2000 Quality Certification

CHERRY HILL, NJ, June 21, 2007 – inTEST Corporation (Nasdaq: INTT), a world leader in developing and manufacturing equipment that reduces the cost of semiconductor testing, announced today that it has received ISO 9001 certification, based on the rigorous ISO 9001:2000 standard.

The ISO 9001:2000 designation refers to a multi-faceted quality management system for companies. The standard is published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), a worldwide federation of national standards bodies, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. To be certified, a company must implement multi-level quality management structures and procedures in accordance with the IS0 9001:2000 standard, and successfully complete a certification audit conducted by an accredited certification body. inTEST Corporation was audited by Perry Johnson Registrars, Inc.

“We are pleased to have received ISO 9001:2000 certification,” said inTEST Senior Vice President Dan Graham. “Since its inception, inTEST Corporation has maintained industry-leading standards of quality. We’re proud of that heritage and have worked hard to maintain it in every aspect of our business. This ISO 9001:2000 certification is clear evidence of the positive results of that effort. It is another reassurance to inTEST customers that they will continue to receive products and service of the highest quality.”

Graham added that the existing corporate culture at inTEST aided in the effort to achieve certification. “We have been quality conscious here for a long time. The company’s workforce is very attuned to the importance of maintaining a high level of quality and customer satisfaction in everything we do, so they really supported this certification effort.”

Jim Carbin, Manager of Quality Assurance at inTEST, agreed. “The essence of what ISO 9001:2000 certification required of inTEST was a standardization of the company’s quality management systems. inTEST’s pro-quality attitude has made these various standardization steps far easier to accomplish.”

The ISO 9001:2000 recommendations touch almost all aspects and levels of the company’s quality management systems, explained Carbin. Company management meets regularly with line managers to go over quality metrics and the status of on-going efforts to maintain high quality standards. Also guiding the effort is a Quality Manual summarizing the program, a full set of written procedures to be followed, and detailed work instructions outlining how specific jobs are to be done. The program includes a complement of standardized forms used to simplify document administration and to speed corrective action. There is also a program of thorough record-keeping to ensure that all decision-making is grounded in accurate quality information. The company has added a number of sophisticated analytical instruments for both incoming and outgoing quality inspection.

“As part of our quality management system, we are keeping very close watch on our suppliers’ quality performance,” added Carbin. “We track a number of supplier metrics, including such things as on-time delivery, acceptance ratios for incoming shipments, and many more. Maintaining high quality in everything we do requires the full support of our suppliers, and they have been very cooperative.”

The ISO 9001:2000 certification program has had a number of beneficial effects on inTEST, according to Carbin. Order turnaround times have improved with the further streamlining of procedures and tighter monitoring. Workflow has gotten smoother, with a significantly greater portion of work administration handled electronically, and many procedures have been simplified by the use of hyper-links in the Quality Manual. The company has established both a Quality Enhancement Program, which encourages employees to submit suggestions on how to improve product or service quality, and also a Red Tag process for quickly identifying and correcting instances of non-conformance.

Certification provides credibility for inTEST’s quality claims,” said Graham, “which can be very important for prospective customers, those companies that have not dealt with us before. They know that a certified company has demonstrated and documented adherence to worldwide quality standards. That’s important to them, and therefore important to our worldwide marketing efforts. Our industry demands outstanding product and service quality. ISO 9001:2000 certification provides objective evidence that inTEST delivers to those high standards.”
