Temptronic, inTEST’s Temperature Management Company, Achieves ISO 9001 Quality Certification

The new modular interface is used in the testing of SOC devices, making this testing less expensive. It has caught the attention of cost-conscious semiconductor manufacturers.

CHERRY HILL, NJ, February 15, 2005 inTEST Corporation (Nasdaq: INTT), a world leader in developing and manufacturing equipment that reduces the cost of semiconductor testing, announced today that its temperature management company, Temptronic Corporation, has achieved ISO 9001 certification, via the rigorous ISO 9001:2000 standard.

The ISO 9001 designation comprises a multi-faceted quality management system for companies. The standard is published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), a worldwide federation of national standards bodies, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

To be certified, a company must implement multi-level quality management structures and procedures in accordance with the IS0 9001:2000 standard, and be audited and recommended for certification by an ISO-approved independent auditor. Temptronic was audited by National Quality Assurance (NQA).

“ISO 9001 certification is an achievement we are all very proud of,” said Jim Pelrin, Temptronic’s General Manager. “As anyone who has gone through this process knows, it requires a real commitment to excellence in every facet of the company’s operation. That commitment is now a fundamental part of the way we do business across the entire company, from design and manufacturing to quality assurance and administration. Everyone at Temptronic has contributed to this intense, multi-year effort.”

Pelrin explained that ISO 9001 certification demands continual improvement, in both operational processes and product quality. “Customer satisfaction is a key metric throughout our program. We have introduced regular customer surveys on a wide variety of performance indices, so customer satisfaction can be a real driver in our continuing development. We’ve also opened a special section on our website, to make it as easy as possible for customers to give us direct feedback on Temptronic products and service.”

The company’s quality program includes extensive factory metrics. In addition, all employees at Temptronic have been encouraged to take an active role in continually improving the company’s performance. In just one example, feedback loops have been established between the factory floor and management that require a written management response.

Commenting on the benefits of certification, Pelrin noted how well it supports the company’s strategic marketing initiatives. “Our being an ISO 9001 company is a reassurance to prospective customers in the new markets we’re entering. They know they’ll get a high-quality product, with excellent delivery and top-notch service and support. That’s important to us, because it will make it easier for them to switch to Temptronic.”

John Peipock, Quality Assurance Manager at Temptronic, was instrumental in moving the company through the ISO 9001 certification process. According to Peipock, the company’s effort began yielding benefits from the outset. “Since the beginning of the program, we’ve been making improvements in product quality and delivery, and our customers have mentioned this, both in our surveys and on the website. Hearing from our customers is an important part of the program, because we use their feedback to continually update and improve virtually every facet of our business.”
